What God Wants For Us: RelatioNship & Purpose

What God Wants For Us

Part 4: Relationship & Purpose

1. How does your understanding of the Gospel—God’s unconditional love and forgiveness through Christ—shape the way you view your acceptance in the church and with God? How have your relationships with other people shaped that understanding (good or bad)?

2. Read Proverbs 29:25 and John 15:5. Do you find yourself seeking approval (or fearing rejection) from others like the friend in the sermon? Or, do you lean towards self-sufficiency (fear of being dependent) and “doing for God” rather than relying on Him and others?

3. Read Hebrews 6:17-20. When facing sin or any struggles in life, do you feel it is safe to share with others, or do you tend to keep it to yourself? Why do you think that is?

4. Read Ephesians 6:10-20. What lies or accusations about yourself or your relationship with God are you tempted to believe? How does God want us to fight against “the schemes of the devil”? Is Paul teaching us this is an individual effort or an entire church community effort? Why is this important to understand?

5. Read 2 Corinthians 5:18-20. What is our role in helping each other form relationships with each other based on God’s love for us? Why are our relationships with one another critical to our purpose as God’s people (the Church)?
