Stories of Belief, Pt. 4

We begin a new series called Stories of Belief, where we look at seven signs Jesus performs as recorded in the gospel of John that reveal who Jesus is.

REFLECTION QUESTIONS

PT. 4 | HEALING THE UNSEEN | JOHN 5:1-17

1. Read John 5:1-7 - Does your Bible skip v.4 and provide a footnote to explain? What might this omitted v.4 tell us about the religious mindset of the man who was disabled?

2. How do you see this same kind of mindset in your relationship with God?

3. Read John 5:8-14 and John 8:1-11. How is Jesus challenging this religious mindset? What is a Gospel-Centered Mindset?

4. Read John 5:15-17. What does it mean that the Father is working and that Jesus is working? Why does Jesus keep performing miracles on the Sabbath Day? What sign is He giving us?

5. Read Exodus 16. How did God want His people to trust in Him on the Sabbath Day? What does it mean that Jesus is our true Sabbath rest?

6. Read Ephesians 1:1-8. How have we already received in Christ every Spiritual blessing. Name these blessings specifically.

7. What does it practically mean for you to rest in Jesus? How can others help you to rest in Jesus and be encouraged toward a Gospel Centered Mindset instead of a religious mindset?
