Stories of Belief, Pt. 3

We begin a new series called Stories of Belief, where we look at seven signs Jesus performs as recorded in the gospel of John that reveal who Jesus is.

REFLECTION QUESTIONS

PT. 3 | THE NOBLEMAN’S SON | JOHN 4:46-54

  1. Read John 4:46-54. What do you think is the difference between the first “believe” in v.50 and the second “believe” in v.53.

  2. Have you found yourself longing to see “signs and wonders” to confirm your faith? Why are “signs and wonders” inadequate to build a deep and abiding trust in God?

  3. We identified the following formula in John 4:46-54 - PRAY, BELIEVE, WALK, BELIEVE.

  4. Read Genesis 22 - can you find the same formula? What other stories in Scripture might follow the same formula?

  5. Do you have a story of walking in faith in the midst of your doubts and God earning your trust?

  6. Is God obligated to earn our trust?

  7. Where are you currently struggling with doubt, fear, or disappointment in God? Share with the group.

  8. As a group, discuss what it might look like for this person to walk in faith while also not ignoring/suppressing their doubts.
