Stories of Belief, Pt. 2

We begin a new series called Stories of Belief, where we look at seven signs Jesus performs as recorded in the gospel of John that reveal who Jesus is.

REFLECTION QUESTIONS

PT. 2 | THE FATHER’S HOUSE | JOHN 2:13-22

  1. Read Leviticus 1 along with Hebrews 10:1-4. What is the old institution of atonement and why is it insufficient?

  2. What things do you tend to look to for “atonement” in your relationship with God? What do you feel you need to offer to God in order to maintain your relationship?

  3. Read John 2:13-17. Why do you think Jesus was so animated in clearing out the temple of the animals and money-changers?

  4. Read John 2:18-22. How was what Jesus did at the temple a sign of what he would accomplish through the cross and resurrection?

  5. Read Hebrews 10:5-14. How did Jesus destroy the temple through the cross?

  6. What new institution does Jesus build through His resurrection? What is the new and only way to have access to God for all of eternity?

  7. What are some relics of the old institution that still exist in the church today?

    • How is the shame we feel in sharing the struggles of our life with each other a relic of the old institution?

    • How do we create a culture within our church that operates according to the new institution built by Jesus.

  8. What does it mean to trust in Jesus - not just in word but in our hearts?
