What is the Bible About, Pt. 2

What is the Bible About, Pt. 2 | The Law

PT. 2 | THE LAW | GENESIS 12:1-3 & GALATIANS 3

1. What have been your thoughts about the Law in Scripture prior to this point? What role does it have in Scripture? What role does it have in your life?

2. Read Genesis 3:15 and Galatians 12:1-3. What is the connection between these two scriptures? What is God promising to do?

3. Read Galatians 3 together as a group and let’s follow the flow of Paul’s argument: (a) v.1-9. Paul seems frustrated with the church in Galatia and begins this section with several rhetorical questions. What point is Paul trying to drive home? (b) v.10-14. How does one receive the blessing of Abraham? (c) v.15-22. Did the law nullify this promise? What is the purpose of the law? (d) v.23-29. What does it mean to “put on” Christ? What is true of those who put on Christ?

4. Why does relying on the law really mean you are relying on yourself? Why is it hard for us to rely on Jesus instead of a law?

5. Did you answer “yes” to any of our reflection questions. If so, what might it look like to let go of the law and trust Jesus?

• Do you feel distance from God when you struggle?

• Do you assume your past has disqualified you from a joyful faith?

• Does having a strong faith seem unattainable to you?
